Credits:2 LEC hours per week:2 Enables professionals working in healthcare settings to offer immediate help to Spanish-speaking patients while waiting for Language Access Services. Emphasis is on basic, practical language needed to communicate with Spanish speaking patients and their families at the hospital or doctor’s office, on the telephone, or at the patient’s home. Produce an introductory conversation with Spanish speaking patients.
Develop the stage for establishing rapport during the clinical encounter.
Elicit the history of the present illness or chief complaint.
Review medical and surgical history along with conducting the review of systems.
Demonstrate recording a medication history along with accurately providing medication information.
Conduct a patient family history.
Respond to sensitive issues related to social and sexual history.
Use therapeutic communication to assess mental health and psychiatric issues.
Accurately provide information on preventative health and nutrition.
Accurately provide directions and explain the purpose of ancillary services and referrals.
