AHSE 110 - HIV/AIDS Education Credits: 0.7 LEC hours per week: 0.700 Provides the healthcare professional with mandatory instruction involving information/knowledge associated with HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, tuberculosis, and related diseases. This class meets Washington State certification/licensing requirements for four or seven hour HIV/AIDS training for healthcare providers. Students completing this class will receive a certificate documenting the mandatory training. Formerly: HO 110. Course Outcomes:
- Discuss incidence, prevalence, and trends of AIDS cases as seen from a county, state, national, and global perspective.
- Describe modes of transmission and conditions for infection of the HIV virus, TB, and Hepatitis.
- Identify main components of infection control practice and policies.
- Describe the HIV antibody testing and test results.
- Discuss the natural stages of HIV infection.
- List and discuss the diseases and infections associated with HIV infection.
- Describe the current treatment for HIV infection.
- Recognize the psychosocial issues associated with HIV/AIDS.
- Identify legal and ethical concerns associated with AIDS.
- Review TB and the HIV/TB connection.
- List and discuss the different types of Hepatitis.
