BUS 231 - Electronic Medical Records Credits: 5 LEC hours per week: 5 Explores the flow of information in a medical office. MediSoft, Office Hours, and MS Word software programs are utilized to process information and produce typical medical office documents, financial records, and insurance claims. Formerly: OT 231. Prerequisite(s): co-enrolled in CS 100 , grade of C or higher in CS 110 , or instructor permission. Course Outcomes:
- Utilize Medisoft to record patient encounter transactions and payments.
- Utilize Medisoft to create insurance claims, produce patient statements, and print reports.
- Demonstrate ability to apply payments to patient ledgers and answer patient questions regarding the balance of their account.
- Demonstrate ability to extract or update information in Medisoft database.
- Utilize Office Hours software to schedule, revise, and locate patient appointments; print schedules; and keep track of doctors’ availability.
- Maintain both paper and electronic financial records of the medical office.
- Perform collection tasks.
- Understand and apply medical office terminology.
- Produce professional correspondence.
- Become familiar with the EMR program, Spring Charts and understand what functions it serves, its capabilities and what features interface with Medisoft.
