CJ 495 - Criminal Justice Capstone


Credits: 1-6

This course is an opportunity for students to gain an emic perspective of the criminal justice system with a structured, extended, work-based learning opportunity. Students synthesize knowledge developed in the BAS Business Management-Criminal Justice Administration program and demonstrate critical thinking and decision-making skills. Students are responsible for developing a capstone project with instructor approval. This course is for students enrolled in the Bachelor of Applied Science Program. Permission code is required.
Course Outcomes:
 

  • Gain practical work experience and explore career opportunities.
  • Develop and enhance essential career-related skills.
  • Apply methods, theory, and related academic knowledge and skills, with particular emphasis on legal and ethical issues related to the industry.
  • Prepare employment application materials, including a professional resume and cover letter.
  • Track capstone project learning objectives, self-evaluate progress, and discuss best practices.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and ability to fulfill all duties of the capstone project.
  • Identify potential policy and procedure issues of a current organization with intent to develop specific and appropriate resolutions.
  • Acquire an understanding of the operations, equipment, forms, and reports of a career-related organization.
