Criminology is the scientific study of crime, criminal behavior, and the law. This course covers crime theories, typologies, patterns, correlates, and statistics, as well as the public’s perceptions and relations to criminal behavior. Formerly: CJ 106.
Course Outcomes:

Research and articulate the main theories in criminology that offer various explanations of the nature and causes of crime.
Examine the roles of race, ethnicity, social class status, gender, power, and other major social variables that influence criminal behavior.
Explain the public perceptions and fear of crime, as well as the societal response to crime.
Delineate common methods used to measure crime.
Apply criminology theories, principles, and concepts to problems and situations in criminal justice.
Research and report special issues in criminology and their effects on larger society.
Operate and assess different technologies used to study of criminology.
Discuss the psychological and physiological effects crime has on the victims, as well as the victims’ families and friends.
