CS 246 - SQL and Relational Database Programming

Database design concepts are applied in programming environment. Focuses on learning and applying the SQL programming language to efficiently define, access, update and retrieve information from a database in a server based environment.
Course Outcomes:
  • Understand and develop a practical working knowledge of SQL’s Data Definition, Manipulation and Control Languages.
  • Understand optimization techniques to speed up and simplify transactions.
  • Understand and enforce data integrity rules.
  • Understand and implement functions, subqueries and views.
  • Develop and test simple SQL based applications.
  • Understand how SQL relates to Database Adminstration.
  • Develop an understanding of advanced data access including embedded code.
  • Gain experience using SQL in an application programming environment.
