EV 180 - Wines of The World Credits: 1 LEC hours per week: 0.500 LAB hours per week: 1 An introduction to the wine producing regions of the world including history, viticultural practices, and winemaking styles. Includes sensory evaluation of representative wines. Must be at least 21 years old to enroll. Course Outcomes:
- Identify the major wine producing countries of the world.
- Identify the major growing regions in those countries.
- Identify the major grape varieties in those regions and the wines produced from them.
- Identify the characteristics of those wines and what makes them unique to their regions.
- Utilize sensory analysis to compare, contrast, assess, and critique a wide variety of wines from around the world.
- Explain how differences of soil, climate, and vinification practices are reflected in the wines.
- Compare and contrast the price/quality relationship as it relates to various wine types and styles from different regions.
Course Topics:
- Discussion about various wine regions located throughout the world including history, viticultural practices, and winemaking styles.
- Sensory analysis of a broad range of wines and wine styles from wine regions located throughout the world.
