GEOG& 207 - Economic Geography Credits: 5 LEC hours per week: 5 Introduces students to the changing locations and spatial patterns of economic activity, such as production in agriculture, manufacturing, retail trade, and services; the geographic dynamics of technical change, employment, business organization, resource use, and divisions of labor; principles of trade and transportation; urbanization; regional economic development; and globalization. Recommended: READ 088 or higher. Course Outcomes:
- Articulate a theoretical understanding of capitalism as a social and geographical system.
- Demonstrate knowledge of key economic geography concepts.
- Apply a geographic framework to understanding and explaining economic activity.
- Develop and apply an analytical framework that explains patterns of industrial location.
- Critically analyze and interpret contemporary theories of the global economy.
