HPER 161 - Intermediate Rodeo Skills and Rules Credits: 2 LEC hours per week: 0.500 LAB hours per week: 3 This high intensity sports activity course will emphasize the skills, strategies, etiquette, and safety of college rodeo. Course Outcomes:
- Employ the rules and guidelines for college rodeo events & the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA).
- Demonstrate physical and mental skills needed to be competitive in ones event(s).
- Recognize and solve specific problems related to ones event(s).
Course Topics:
- Bareback bronc riding, calf roping, saddle bronc riding, breakaway roping (women), goat tying (women), team roping (co-ed), barrel racing (women), bull riding, and steer wrestling
- Methods in competitive performance
- Safety in college rodeo
- Individual and team strategy
- National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) rules and guidelines
