HPER 160 - Basic Rodeo Skills and Rules

This high intensity sports activity course will emphasize the skills, strategies, etiquette, and safety of college rodeo.
Course Outcomes:
  • Employ the rules and guidelines for college rodeo events & the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA).
  • Demonstrate physical and mental skills needed to be competitive in ones event(s).
  • Practice using proper skills and strategies
  • Recognize and solve specific problems related to ones event(s).
Course Topics:
  1. Bareback bronc riding, calf roping, saddle bronc riding, breakaway roping (women), goat tying (women), team roping (co-ed), barrel racing (women), bull riding, and steer wrestling
  2. Methods in competitive performance
  3. Safety in college rodeo
  4. Individual and team strategy
  5. National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) rules and guidelines
