HPER 139 - Archery I Credits: 1 LEC hours per week: 0.500 LAB hours per week: 1.500 This course, designed for the beginning or intermediate archer, will expose students to the sport’s history, terminology, equipment, etiquette, and skill fundamentals. Course Outcomes:
- Demonstrate skill principles associated with proper shooting stance, nocking an arrow correctly, proper anchor point and safety release of an arrow.
- Explain and paraphrase archery history.
- Utilize principles of score keeping and demonstrate correct calculations.
- Demonstrate proper usage of archery terminology.
- Apply proper use of archery rules and etiquette.
Course Topics:
- Basic equipment used for archery
- Practice components of nocking, drawing, aiming and shooting at targets
- Scoring and retrieving arrows
- Rules and etiquette
- Preparation for the physical demands associated with archery
- Lifetime fitness value - opportunities to continue activity outside of class time
