HPER 139 - Archery I

This course, designed for the beginning or intermediate archer, will expose students to the sport’s history, terminology, equipment, etiquette, and skill fundamentals.
Course Outcomes:
  • Demonstrate skill principles associated with proper shooting stance, nocking an arrow correctly, proper anchor point and safety release of an arrow.
  • Explain and paraphrase archery history.
  • Utilize principles of score keeping and demonstrate correct calculations.
  • Demonstrate proper usage of archery terminology.
  • Apply proper use of archery rules and etiquette.
Course Topics:
  1. Basic equipment used for archery
  2. Practice components of nocking, drawing, aiming and shooting at targets
  3. Scoring and retrieving arrows
  4. Rules and etiquette
  5. Preparation for the physical demands associated with archery
  6. Lifetime fitness value - opportunities to continue activity outside of class time
