HPER 105 - Jogging

This course will explore the theory, knowledge, and practical experience in the principles of jogging and its relationship to lifetime fitness.
Course Outcomes:
  • Calculate target heart rate and demonstrate its use in assessing walking and/or jogging intensity.
  • Practice proper jogging body mechanics.
  • Design an individual workout plan with strategic design and attainable goals.
  • Identify the benefits of proper exercise methods, warm up and cool down techniques, stretching techniques, and safety.
  • Demonstrate progressive increase in workload.
  • Practice concepts associated with general fitness, cardiovascular improvement, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, stress reduction, and safety.

  1. Calculate target heart rate
  2. Body mechanics when jogging
  3. Assessment methods
  4. Overload principle and workout progressions
  5. Development of an individual workout plan
  6. Warm up and cool down techniques, stretching techniques, and safety.
  7. General fitness, cardiovascular improvement, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, stress reduction, and safety.
