HVACR 110 - Refrigeration Components Credits: 5 LAB hours per week: 7.500 This course covers the mechanical equipment used in the refrigeration and air conditioning industry. Students will be introduced to the proper troubleshooting techniques and practice using those techniques to repair this equipment. The proper application and repair of evaporators, condensers, compressors, expansion devices, and special components will be studied and practiced. Course Outcomes:
- Interpret evaporator pressure, the evaporating refrigerant temperature, and the amount of evaporator superheat.
- Explain the operation of different types of evaporators and condensers.
- Interpret condenser pressure, temperature, superheat and subcooling.
- Compare and contrast the five types of compressors.
- Measure compressor performance using all industry standards.
- Evaluate popular expansion devices.
- Adjust expansion valves to industry standards.
- Use various metering devices to adjust system charge per manufacturing protocol.
- Distinguish between mechanical and electrical controls.
- Explain the basic function of a mechanical control.
- Describe various refrigeration accessories.
