HVACR 101 - Refrigeration Basics II Credits: 4 LAB hours per week: 6 This course explores the basics of calibrating trade instruments and environmental management of refrigerants and refrigeration oils. Labs will include window air conditioners, PTAC and PTHP operation, recovery, evacuation and charging techniques in the lab. Use of digital temperature meters and a gauge manifold will be used to determine operating parameters. Students will learn the operations of a digital multi meter (DMM) and be able to identify and use all aspects of those meters in the troubleshooting of components and systems. Students will learn electrical related components, read and draw schematics, and wiring related to the NEC. Students will take the Federal EPA-068 Technician Refrigerant Certification Exam. Course Outcomes:
- Calibrate common trade instruments.
- Use industry standard refrigerant recovery processes.
- Demonstrate industry standard charging processes for refrigeration and/or air conditioning systems.
- Compare and contrast small package AC, HP, PTAC, and PTHP systems
- Describe proper installation procedures for window or through the wall air conditioners.
- Apply National Electric Code policies and procedures.
