JD 210 - John Deere Powertrains

Theory of power transmission from engine to traction wheels are discussed. Topics include function and operation of gears, chains, clutches, planetary gears, drive lines, differentials, and transmissions. Complete disassembly, inspection, and reassembly to specification are practiced. Offered to second year John Deere students only.
Course Outcomes:
  • Demonstrate endplay or preloads in power train components.
  • Describe power-shift and manual shift transmissions.
  • Explain the operation of hydrostatic transmissions.
  • Test, disassemble and assemble all types of John Deere agricultural power train components.
  • Explain the theory of operation of power train systems in John Deere equipment.
  • Communicate the complaint, the cause, and the action taken to correct the problem.
  • Use software applications and technical equipment appropriate for task.
  • Exhibit professionalism as listed in “Guidelines to Success” policies.
