Explores values, ethics, and legal decision-making frameworks and policies used to support the well-being of people and groups within the context of the healthcare professions. This is a continuation of content from PHIL 140, PHIL 142, and PHIL 240. Student may not receive credit for both PHIL 241 and NURS 241.
Prerequisite(s): Admission to the Nursing Program; Grade C or better in PHIL 140, PHIL 142, and PHIL 240.
Corequisite(s): NURS 201 and NURS 211.
Course Outcomes:

Explore the process of socialization into a healthcare profession.
Develop strategies to work successfully within a culturally diverse workforce.
Evaluate the ethical importance of personal professional development and State continuing competency programs for healthcare providers.
Describe how research and evidence based practice information are used by healthcare providers.
Using the nursing profession as an examplar, discuss the process of State licensure and the Uniform Disciplinary Act for healthcare providers.
Explore the roles of various healthcare providers in complex bioethical dilemmas.
Identify ways in which a healthcare professional can decrease their risk of a malpractice lawsuit.
