HVACR 130 - Electricity for HVACR Credits: 5 LAB hours per week: 7.500 This course provides a practical application of electrical and electronic circuits wiring operation and troubleshooting for heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR) circuits. Topics include electrical safety, reading control and line wiring diagrams, wiring and testing of circuits and system components, circuit protectors, use of test instruments, and applicable code requirements. Course Outcomes:
- Integrate electrical safety practices into the labs and workplace.
- Apply proper electrical safety practices when using testing instruments in a variety of situations.
- Explain typical electrical components and their function used in HVACR.
- Assess wiring diagrams to determine sequence of operation and to troubleshoot electrical circuits.
- Evaluate performance of motors and control components by measuring their resistance.
- Explain the difference between run and start capacitors and test to determine tolerance.
- Analyze wiring connections, turns ratio, ampacity and fusing of transformers.
- Assess wire size and code compliance for HVACR equipment using the NEC.
- Assess the correct over-current protection for the equipment load by the NEC.
