NA 100 - Nursing Assistant


Credits: 8
LEC hours per week: 3.500
LAB hours per week: 9
This course prepares the student with the skills and behaviors needed for working under the direction of licensed medical professionals in administering basic nursing care to patients. Students who successfully complete the classroom, laboratory, and clinical requirements will be eligible to take the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP) examination. This course is approved by the State of Washington Department of Health. An application is required and available in the Nursing Education Department or by calling 509-527-4240.
Prerequisite(s): Placement into READ 088  or CASAS Level 5.
Course Outcomes:
  • Distinguish between the role of the nursing assistant and the roles of the other members of the health care team.
  • Employ effective communication skills with clients, family, and other healthcare team members.
  • Apply basic techniques needed for general health assessment and daily care of residents.
  • Discuss the cause and effect of common disease processes and the interventions needed for preventative care and personal safety.
  • Apply cultural awareness in all aspects of care, building on the student’s own cultural strengths.
  • Employ English language competence for workplace communication.
